Udaipur, Rajasthan- the lake and the city

Udaipur- A cultural getaway and the most beautiful sunset in Rajasthan.

We left the fort city of Jaisalmer with sweet memories and reached Udaipur which gave a different glimpse into the cultural heritage of Rajasthan. Udaipur welcomed us to the beautiful view of lake Pichola.

We had a beautiful experience while we visited some well-known (Sun set point, cultural evening at Bagore ki Haveli.

We went to some not so well-known (Manjhiran ka Ghat)The local kids were really friendly and came up to us to talk. We strongly suggest going here  for beautiful views.

It was Awshesh’s birthday and we had dinner looking over Lake Pichola. There were fireworks in the sky as Diwali was also on the same day.  We had awesome food at not so expected corners of Udaipur.

At the Bagore ki Haveli we bought tickets and watched a cultural program. We had read that this is really authentic and it lived up to its reputation. There were many dance forms presented from Kalbelia of the snake charmer tribe to the Ghoomar of the royal ladies.

Quick Facts

  • How to reach Udaipur : Udaipur is well connected by bus and train from Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Mt.Abu.  We took an overnight A/C sleeper bus from Jaisalmer to Udaipur. It was comfortable with blankets and enough rest stops.
  • Stay : There are many options to stay at various price points. However, if it is Diwali or some other major festival it is better to book in advance as a lot of tourists from Gujrat come here to vacation.
  • Eat : Udaipur sees a lot of domestic and international tourists. A wide range of options are available ranging from traditional meal (thali ) to Continental, Chinese dishes.
  • Shop : Udaipur has very nice miniature painting shops that teach and sell beautiful miniature paintings. Prices vary from Rs.150 to several thousand rupees depending on the kind of work and size of the paintings. Rajasthani handicrafts are also sold widely. Negotiation is expected and recommended.
